Most of the aviculturists I know are familiar with former hand-fed pet psittacines that, even after years of trial, have absolutely no interest in breaking their attachment to humans and becoming breeder birds.  Regardless of their apparent ill ease or outright discontent in their living situation, such birds frequently cannot make the connection between needing affection and obtaining it from another parrot!  Such is one unfavourable side effect of the whole domestic hand-feeding procedure.  But, what about the other side of this issue?

What about those psittacines which, as they fully mature, begin to exhibit very strong tendencies towards going to nest and breeding offspring?  Even the most well-adjusted companion parrots can evolve to the point where reproductive expression becomes the primary need in their lives.  The logical first question is why does this happen?
