Personality Profile by Sally Blanchard
White-fronted Amazons (Amazona albifrons) have been one of my favourite parrots for years. At just under 10in, they are the smallest of the genus. They are sexually dimorphic, which means it is possible to visually tell whether a bird is male or female. The hens have no red on their wings. They are named because of the white feathers on the top of their head and the amount of this coloration can vary among individuals, but isn’t determined by gender. They have been mistakenly referred to as the spectacled parrot, but should not be confused with the red-spectacled (Amazona pretrei), a vulnerable Amazon from South America, which has no white on its head.
