I cannot say with any certainty when I decided I wanted a bird. I had grown up as an animal lover and had owned cats for most of my life, but living with a parrot was always at the back of my mind. When my wife and I moved to Colorado in 2003, for me to attend graduate school, I began thinking my life was now stable enough to have a parrot. After running across a Quaker Parakeet in a pet store a few months later, my quest for a bird began.
