Colour Change

Referring to the article ‘Colour-Sensitive’ in the February 2010 edition of the magazine. I could not believe it when I opened my copy and read this.  Only a couple of days earlier, as it was one of the many cold mornings this winter, I need some extra layers!  Going through my wardrobe I found a nice warm, thick hand-made Aran sweater, which my friend had made for me some time ago, but I had not worn.  I put it on, lovely, just the job for a snowy day.

More information please?

First I wanted to say that I love the magazine and keep up the good work. However, I am writing to comment on the article about the Caribbean Amazon Parrots.  I must say that I was very disappointed.  When I opened the issue I was excited to read an in depth article.  What I read was an article that lacked depth and was written by a visitor who did not bother to do any real research.

In her article in the April issue, Pam Fryer asked for up-to-date information about the Caribbean Amazons. Having recently returned from St Lucia, I can give some information on the magnificent endemic parrot (Amazona versicolor).

I write in response to EB Cravens article “The Advantage of Former Wild Caught Parrots as Breeder Birds.” Issue 147. I have had articles published in Parrots Magazine since it first started. I have written several articles in the past similar to the one in question and took it many stages further. I will give this advice again, for what notice is taken.

Wild caught in markets

I refer to the “Parrots of Peru” article by Robert Alison (April 2010 edition), and agree with his central thesis that ecotourism has an increasing importance for parrot conservation in that country. I also agree with his mention of the potential for responsible aviculture in Peru. Mainly I wish to refer to the situation of wild-caught parrots being available in local markets. It might be true, although I have not seen comparative figures that support a decline of parrots in these markets, but there is still a long way to go before this no longer happens.

Stop the criticisms

I have been reading with interest the various comments about National Parrot Sanctuary and Zoo and cannot understand why anyone would object to the findings of Greg Glendell? So what if he hasn’t got qualifications, as if experience and knowledge count for nothing! He knows what he is talking about.
