Dear Parrots magazine,
Disinfecting
I have always been regarded as ‘over the top’ when cleaning and disinfecting my cages and nest boxes. For years I have been using an iodine based product and although has an impeccable reputation for killing all bacteria and viruses (still used in hospitals as far as I know), it is a problem in some cases because of the yellow stain it leaves behind. I am not over bothered about the stain on nest boxes, but has left stains on some other items in my cages.
So, after doing some research, I came across F10, which also has a brilliant reputation as an effective disinfectant. It is not cheap, but is very concentrated so goes a long way. Although I have asked many questions about these two products, I would like to know more about their differences and what are the best applications for both. I have been told that F10 will kill Covid-19, so I use it on my wheelie bin lids and my hands. I would not use the iodine one on my hands, as I don’t want people to think I am ill and jaundice. Any information would be good.
