Dear Parrots magazine,
Be responsible
I tend to look up the ‘Lost and Found’ information on the Parrots website and find it so sad and unnecessary that during summer months the number of escaped birds rises significantly.
Clearly it is because windows and doors get left open when birds are allowed to fly freely within a household. But why don’t people realise, especially with a pet like a bird that flies, that it is far more important to ensure that doors and windows are either kept closed or some form of containment (eg., mesh panels) should be fitted over windows. I know life is very busy these days for most people, but when you contain any creature in a captive environment you are responsible and you should take that responsibility seriously.
