Letters: Love at first sight!

Dear Parrots magazine,

Love at first sight!

I adopted my special needs cockatiel, Mikey, in November 2009. One day I was surfing through Petfinder and I found his profile which mentioned, he was missing his toes on one foot. So my parents and I arranged to meet him. I took him food, treats and toys, and the minute I saw him I fell in love!

Letters: Shredded paper works a treat!

Dear Parrots magazine,

Shredded paper works a treat!

I have always used newspaper to line my bird cages, but have found that some birds tear it into tiny pieces.  This leaves the cage bottom bare.  It keeps them amused, but it does not make cage-cleaning easy!

Letters: Ringnecks make wonderful pets!

Dear Parrots magazine,

Ringnecks make wonderful pets!

Contrary to recent comments in your magazine regarding Indian ringnecks being only suitable as aviary birds, and psittacula parakeets having a weaker bond with humans I wish to set the record straight.

Letters: Pride and prejudice

Dear Parrots magazine,

Pride and prejudice

I have been a dedicated hobbyist breeder for over 45 years and wish to express my disappointment at the quality of modern-day birds and urge breeders to join a ‘new club for quality.’

Letters: Willow supports took root!

Dear Parrots magazine,

Willow supports took root!

I was pleased to see the picture of John Hayward in your Think Parrots Souvenir Hand-out in July’s magazine. We were amongst those who helped him raise £50 for the World Parrot Trust by buying willow sticks from him.

Letters: Silencing my noisy Hahn’s

Dear Parrots magazine,

Silencing my noisy Hahn’s

I used to have one very noisy Hahn’s macaw, but very recently I bought him a play perch with ropes and toys attached, that has a suction pad at one end, which attaches to a window pane.
