Letters: A second bird

Dear Parrots magazine,

A second bird

I would like to respond to Lee Gamble’s article in the August issue 319 - ”It’s official, I am turning into my grandad”. I am assuming Lee is retired and home most of the day. Lee, your daughter’s report on her parrot ownership is sadly too common nowadays. I am so pleased you and your wife have stepped in and clearly given the parrot a much better home.

Letters: Cage sizes

Dear Parrots magazine,

Cage sizes

There has been much publicity over the years with regard to the size of cages that parrots should be kept in providing them with adequate space to exercise and to keep them healthy. However, there are possibly two sides of the story, as I know of a number of pet owners whose parrots are kept in cages that would probably not comply with the law.

Letters: Patience with new items

Dear Parrots magazine,

Patience with new items

Over the years I have read a lot about how parrots can react adversely to new items being put into their cages, and thinking about how my Grey reacted recently with a new perch. My African Grey, Buddy, is now 12 years old and gets into everything. He comes out a lot and has pretty well the freedom of the house and doesn’t seem to be afraid to get into anything, good or bad! He is with me most of the days as my husband works full time, so we spend a lot of time together and understand each other.

Letters: Chocolate warning

Dear Parrots magazine,

Chocolate warning

I read with interest the letter by David Vickery about the dangers of chocolate in last month’s issue. There has always been lots of publicity about the health issues chocolate can cause, but we have to get it all in perspective.

Letters: Chocolate – beware!

Dear Parrots magazine,

Chocolate – beware!

I read with great interest and some amusement the article, Rocky the hooligan parrot from hell! I was a little worried when Zesha Salem wrote, …the mum of two sometimes has to bribe him with his favourite snacks of hummus or chocolate coins.

Letters: Saving the Spix’s

Dear Parrots magazine,

Saving the Spix’s

In the last issue of this magazine (July 318), I found it so refreshing to see that there are some wonderful people who really care about our wildlife and our threatened species. I remember some years ago, there were attempts to release Spix’s Macaws into the wild, but sadly with no real success.
