Is variety the best solution?

Dear Parrots magazine,

Is variety the best solution?

Choosing the right diet to feed my birds has never been an easy decision, particularly with the many different opinions that I have read about.  Do I feed seed, pellets, fresh food or whatever else?

Response to a reader's query

Dear Parrots magazine,

Response to a reader's query

It was interesting to read the question submitted by Alan Baker about parent-rearing his African Grey chicks, and yet still wanting to socialise and tame the babies.

Contaminated seed

Dear Parrots magazine,

Contaminated seed

I have had a 2kg bag of African Grey low sunflower seed contaminated with maggots.  I have contacted the manufacturer several times now, but they have not bothered to reply. I then bought a second bag of the same make from my local pet shop, and when I checked the unopened bag, I could see slightly sticky strands with seed attached dangling down inside the unopened bag.  I took it back to the pet shop and when the owner checked his other bag on the shop floor,  that was also infected.

Beyond comprehension

Dear Parrots magazine,

Beyond comprehension

The article by Svetlana Velichko in the August publication was truly interesting for me although, perhaps, in a somewhat oblique way.

Live and Let Live

Dear Parrots magazine,

Live and Let Live

It saddens me when I see a flurry of bickering letters in successive issues of Parrots magazine.

Unsupported claim

Dear Parrots magazine,

Unsupported claim

I very rarely write in to any magazine but Leslie Moran's letter in issue 200 of Parrots, is just too much. Why? Well to quote … 'In dogs and cats I have been able to cure cancer, allergies, liver disease, arthritis and several types of joint disease' as if this medical breakthrough is not enough she then goes on to claim that in parrots she has been able to, quote … 'permanently cure bacterial and fungal infections, liver disease and have stopped the cycle of reoccurring bacterial and fungal infections.'  This is a totally unsupported claim that cannot go unchallenged.
