Letters: Top expert writings appreciated!

Dear Parrots magazine,

Top expert writings appreciated!

I should like to say just how much I have enjoyed the recent articles by David Woolcock and Michael Simmons. For several years now I have taken the advice of Rosemary Low to "Go West for Parrots," (as in the title of her book about her travels in the Caribbean and, Central and South America), although in my case it has been to visit zoological collections in the West Country. Parrot lovers in the counties of Cornwall, Devon and Somerset are fortunate indeed to have so many excellent collections at their disposal.

Letters: Lost their freedom forever

Dear Parrots magazine,

Lost their freedom forever

It was marvellous to read Mr Steven’s kind comments about the articles and Paradise Park, thank you very much indeed. In response to the comment about my use of the phrase, “the smuggled birds have lost their freedom forever” with reference to the article about Red-tailed Black Cockatoos I would like to comment:

Letters: Time for thyme?

Dear Parrots magazine,

Time for thyme?

In response to your interesting article on the benefits of basil in the October 2012 issue of Parrots magazine, and more specifically on its ability to inhibit the growth of numerous bacterias, I suggest that an article on thyme would be good too!

Letters: Breeding Ringnecks

Dear Parrots magazine,

Breeding Ringnecks

I was interested to read the letter from Harry Leese regarding my reply to a query on breeding Ringnecks in the November 2012 issue. It is good to know that someone can successfully breed Ringnecks on the colony system! I would however never advise first time breeders of Ringnecks to breed several pairs in a colony, as I feel it would need a very experienced breeder to be able to notice any hint of aggression or upset between the birds, before it got out of hand.

Letters: Be on your guard

Dear Parrots magazine,

Be on your guard

I would just like to put people on their guard when buying birds. My neighbour, next door but two, has always been interested in parrots and every time he comes to see me, always goes on about my birds.

Letters: Parrot sanctuary

Dear Parrots magazine,

Parrot sanctuary

There seems to be a great deal said in the avian press and forums about the National Parrot Sanctuary. Well, I have been there and was far from happy at what I saw.
